Amikor úgy alakult, hogy újból Svédországba jöhetek, eldöntöttem, hogy minél többet szeretnék utazni. Alvesta, ahol élek, tökéletes ebből a szempontból, sok dél-svédországi város megközelíthető vonattal - vagy közvetlenül vagy egy átszállással. Szóval beálltam az egynapos-kirándulás formulára: indulás reggel, séta és az új város felfedezése a nap során, este pedig vissza.
Az első ilyen egynapos kirándulásom során a Svédország délkeleti partján fekvő, Balti-tengerre néző Kalmar-ba látogattam el. Az elsődleges célom az volt, hogy lássam a tengert, de a város teljesen magával ragadott a szépségével és csodálatos hangulatával. A város utcáin sétálni olyan érzés, mint egy középkorabeli tengerparti kereskedővárosban bandukolni. A tenger közelsége és illata, a színpompás házak a keskeny utcákon, a macskaköves főtér az időtlenség érzését keltik. A város építészetileg csodaszép, de emellett a természet is mindenhol jelen van - magas fákkal és zöld fűvel csalogató parkok vannak a város több pontján is, és olyan 20 percre a vasútállomástól van egy aprócska sziget amelyet érintetlen erdő fed, s ahol vadnyulak szaladgálnak. És persze ott a tenger is - élvezheted a kilátást a kikötőből, a parkokból vagy meg is mártózhatsz Kalmar valamelyik homokkal borított strandján.
A városban sok a történelmi épület. Az egyik, melyet majdnem azonnal megpillant az ember, az a Kalmar Vár (Kalmar Slott), egy reneszánsz stílusban épült kastély, amely büszkén magasodik a tenger fölé a saját kis szigetén. A vár belseje egyszerű de impozáns, s valami különleges okból megtekinthető Google Térkép alkalmazásban is (
katt ide ha nem akarsz keresgélni). A várhoz egy parkon át vezet az út, ahol különböző népek által inspirált kis kertek vannak - például egy japán kert -, valamint egy kis tó, amely mellé leülhetsz kicsit pihenni. Ugyanitt a parkban található a Művészeti Múzeum is, ha épp egy kis kultúrára vágynál.
Egy másik neves építmény, amit majdhogynem lehetetlen nem megpillantani már csak a magassága miatt is, az a Régi Víztorony. Egy bástyaszerű épület, amely Kalmar Óvárosának szélén magasodik, kaput nyitva a város régi építésű de még mindig takaros házakkal tarkított történelmi felére. A sétálóutcák macskakövén haladva pedig megérkezik az ember a főtérre, ahol a Kalmar Katedrális magasodik. Be is lehet menni díjtalanul, hogy körbenézz - mint minden templomba Svédországban.
Kalmar mindenképpen benne van a Top 3-ban a "Legszebb svéd városok" listámon. Megvan benne egyszerre egy vidéki város nyugalma és szépsége, egy turistaváros enyhe zsongása és egy nagyobb város szórakozóhelyei, boltjai. Minden mást elmondanak a képek (az angol szöveg után).

When I moved to Sweden I decided that I want to travel as much as I can. Alvesta - the city I live in - is perfect for achieving this goal, as it has train connections to many southern Swedish cities. You can reach many famous cities with one train, or just changing once. So, I planned some trips according to the one-day formula: start in the morning, spend the day disovering the new ciy, come back in the evening.
My first one-day trip was to Kalmar, a city on the south-eastern coast of Sweden, looking over the Baltic Sea. My primary goal was to see the sea, but then the city captured me with it´s incredible beauty and atmosphere. Walking down the streets of the city feels like you are traveling in a maritime trading town from the middle ages. The closeness and the smell of the sea, the narrow streets with colorful houses, the cobbled main square give out the mood of timelessness. Not only is the architecture beautiful, the city is also full of nature - there are many parks with tall trees and green grass to have a rest in. And just about 20 minutes from the train station is a little island with an untouched forest where wild rabbits run around freely. And of course there is the sea - you can enjoy the view from the harbour, the parks or you can try out the water in one of Kalmar´s sandy beaches.
The city also has several historical buildings. One that you will immidiately spot is the Kalmar Castle, a renaissance style castle standing prideful on its own island with an imposing interior. If you want to check out how the castle looks on the inside I recommend searching for "Kalmar Slott" in Google Maps. Suprisingly enough you can get an interior view (
Click here if you want to get the view the easy way). Leading to the castle is a park with little gardens inspired by different nations - like a Japanese garden -, and a little pond. The Museum of Art is also here in this park, if you are looking for a bit of culture.
An other significant building that you will probably see from far is the Old Water Tower. Looking like a bastion it hovers over the shore on the edge of the Old Town, the historic part of Kalmar with houses of older style but still showing a tidy outside. The walking streets of the city are just as beautiful and on the main square there is the Kalmar Cathedral. You can go in and look around for free - just as in the case of every church in Sweden.
Kalmar is definitely in the Top 3 on my personal list of "Most wonderful cities in Sweden". It has the calmness and beauty of a countyside city, but it is also big enough to have more entertainment facilities and places to shop. And now let the pictures do the rest of the talking:
